You don't have to agree with the politics of the film to acknowledge the heartache and reality of the characters' pain.

Le Will -- I have seen SALVADOR and TALK RADIO, and they both rock. (As a Stone junkie, though, I think all of this stuff rocks -- even the early horror film of his that starred Michael Caine as a man being attacked by a severed hand! Called, you guessed it, THE HAND.

Yes, the violence does not seem so shocking after living here. And his conversion into activism, which some see as kind of out-of-the-blue, seemed very much logical to me; all the clues are there, and for all of Stone's bombast, there is a real subtlety in the gradual way he depicts Kovic losing his idealism. It's in the sound of a voice and a look in the eyes and the wail of a remembered baby's scream. The master, Stone is.Scotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03304014734147849036noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8829284.post-1128374969060675942005-10-04T05:29:00.000+08:002005-10-04T05:29:00.000+08:00I like the way movies affect you onan emotional le...I like the way movies affect you on
an emotional level.Many people go
to a movie just for the entertainment value provided.Thumb
up or down then back to the real
world.But when I see a movie like
Born on the 4th I think and hope
that society learns a little something from what's being shown on the screen.Unfortunately there
will always be an upper class military industrial complex to rob
the lower classes of their youth.
And so it goes even today.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8829284.post-1128354732616171702005-10-03T23:52:00.000+08:002005-10-03T23:52:00.000+08:00I love many of his movies too - have you seen Salv...I love many of his movies too - have you seen Salvador or Talk Radio? I just saw Born on the 4th of July again too when I was in Guatemala. Like you said, it does not seem so shocking or over the top in places torn apart by horrific violence.

You get spammed more than any other blogger I've seen by the way.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8829284.post-1128328358420255582005-10-03T16:32:00.000+08:002005-10-03T16:32:00.000+08:00Many Americans go to visit, but don't live there.A...Many Americans go to visit, but don't live there.

Americans mostly work in religion related Org/NGOs and hang out in those circles?

Check out the statistics:
http://www.mot.gov.kh/statistic.aspAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8829284.post-1128321359863556752005-10-03T14:35:00.000+08:002005-10-03T14:35:00.000+08:00Steve's Steakhouse is, indeed, an American-style r...Steve's Steakhouse is, indeed, an American-style restaurant run by, get this, a man named Steve. From St.Louis. Married to a Thai woman for twenty-odd years. Living in Cambodia. You meet all kinds, here. Brought his dad over to help run the farm after his mother passed away. Very good burgers -- although I did get food poisoning from one of them, the very same night that I was bragging that I never get sick, bla bla bla.

There aren't TOO many Americans over here, though there are some. There are more Canadians and Brits and Aussies, I'd say, since I think not as many Americans travel.
